About Martin
Martin VanBuren Buchanan was a founder of the Mt. Olive Methodist Episcopal Church, a historic church built by freed people in the 1880s near Oatlands Plantation. He later served in the 2nd Regiment U.S. Colored Infantry in Washington, D.C., and is honored by a Virginia Civil War Trail marker at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Loudoun.
