John Aaron Wilkinson was President of J.L. Roper Lumber Co. and Vice President of the Norfolk & Southern Railroad. In 1899 he began construction of the grand Victorian mansion that would become River Forest Manor, completing it in 1904. He married Virginia Katherine Heusner in 1912 and passed away in 1932.
