Rev. Anthony Johnson was the founding pastor of First Baptist Church East End, serving from 1896 to 1898. He led the initial group of worshipers who gathered under a tree before moving to a house at Oak Avenue and 29th Street, and oversaw the erection of the church’s first wooden edifice on July 4, 1898.
