Rev. Dr. Alexander Phillippi was a Lutheran pastor who, after the Civil War, established a girls’ school adjacent to the current Grubb Funeral Home and founded the congregation that became Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in 1875, later merging with St. John’s Lutheran Church in 1924.
