About Engelbert
Engelbert Franz (born 1896) immigrated to the United States at age 15 and co‑founded United States Bakery (later Franz Bakery) in Oregon. He and his brothers purchased the Ann Arbor Bakery in 1906, acquired the United States Bakery in 1907, and later the Butter Nut Bread name in 1909. He passed away in 1954, leaving the bakery to his son Joe.
