About J.l.
J.L. Turner was a Tennessee farmer who, after his father's death, quit school in the fourth grade to help his family. He co‑invested $5,000 with Luther Turner, Sr. to purchase a building in 1939 that became the foundation of Dollar General, later known as J.L. Turner and Son Wholesale Company.
Steve Turner is a member of the founding Turner family of Dollar General, part of the third generation that broadened the base established by his grandfather J.L. Turner and his father Cal Turner, Sr. He contributed to the early growth of the company.
