Rev. S.F. Chapman served as pastor of Covington Baptist Church, called to the ministry in 1882, 17 years after the Civil War. He is the subject of the 2001 book *Mosby's Fighting Parson: The Life and Times of Sam Chapman*, which chronicles his exploits as a Confederate soldier.
