About Ulysses
Ulysses Grant Patterson was a teacher at The Virginia Seminary, where he taught voice and conducted the brass band. He served as director of the Senior Choir at Court Street Baptist Church from 1897 until his death in April 1916, and was also a baritone singer and cornet player, regarded as the finest Negro cornetist in Virginia.
